New community-themed bridge to be built in Grimsby

Grimsby’s residents are being asked to theme the bridge

By Local Democracy Reporter

A creative development in the heart of Grimsby will see a bridge built with the help of the local community.

The Garth Lane build is part of the new ‘Our Haven’ project set up by North East Lincolnshire Council, and will allow residents to help pick themes for the bridge.

It unclear when construction will begin, but community suggestions will be considered before any decision is made.

Our Big Picture, a local heritage and arts organisation, has been funded by the council’s regeneration partner ENGIE to work on the ‘Our Haven’ project.

Paula Denton, who leads Our Big Picture, said: “We really do want people of all ages in Grimsby to get involved.

“This is not only about the bridge, but about people exploring what they cherish about our area in the past, present and future.”

Also, work is starting on ‘fish-themed’ benches in the town, prompting the proposed bridge to follow suit in terms of unique ideas.

Anyone with any ideas has been encouraged to post suggestions and pictures either to the Our Big Picture website or Facebook page.
