By Local Democracy Reporter

Cancer Research UK’s annual Race for Life events have been cancelled across Lincolnshire due to coronavirus.

Events in Lincoln, Stamford, Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes have been withdrawn as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Lincoln’s 5k, 10k & Pretty Muddy at Lincolnshire Showground on Saturday, September 12
  • Stamford’s 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy & Pretty Muddy kids at Burghley House were meant to take place on Saturday, May 30
  • Scunthorpe’s 5k at Normandy Hall County on Wednesday, August 26
  • Cleethorpes’ 5k & 10k at Meridian Park on Sunday, October 4

It is the first time in 27 years that the races will not take place.

Patrick Keely, spokesperson for Cancer Research UK in Lincolnshire, said: “We remain tirelessly committed to making progress for people affected by cancer but now more than ever, support from the public will be vital.

“The safety of our supporters, volunteers, suppliers and staff is essential. We hope the Race for Life event series will be back bigger and stronger than ever in 2021.”

In the meantime, the charity are encouraging people to still race from home, doing challenges in gardens and sharing photos and videos using the hashtag #RaceForLifeAtHome.
