There are reportedly ten miles of tailbacks on the A1 between Grantham and Newark after a crash in the early hours of the morning.

Officers were notified of the crash between a van and a car at the Marston Toll Bar junction on the A1 near Gonerby Moor at around 6am on Thursday.

All emergency services are still at the scene, with serious injuries to those involved in the crash.

The carriageway has been blocked in both directions, closing the A1 between A52 at Barrowby and Long Bennington.

The road has already been closed for a number of hours, with police unsure as to when the road will open up again.

The Lincolnshire Police Rural Crime Team went live on Twitter to show the area that has been blocked off and explain the ongoing situation.

Traffic is beginning to be diverted, with cars being cleared from the halted traffic, and HGVs being diverted also.

Investigations are ongoing and police would like anyone who saw the crash to call 101 and quote reference 64 of August 13.
