A popular chippy in North Hykeham that has been in business for around 25 years has decided to close its restaurant, but it will return with a click and collect service after a refurb.
Fish King at The Forum in North Hykeham closed for three to four weeks at the beginning of lockdown, whilst it sorted its online ordering system and social distancing measures.
It reopened in April, initially for click and collect only, before re-introducing walk-ins but with a limited capacity. However, the 26-seater restaurant remained shut and it has since been decided that its closure will be permanent as it “wasn’t feasible” to keep it open.
The chippy closed again for a two-week renovation on August 24 and is getting ready to welcome customers back again on Monday, September 7. All fifteen staff will be kept on.

The whole shop will be upgraded with new floors and ceilings and to keep up with demand, a new range of fryers and equipment will be installed. The restaurant will be turned into an open plan kitchen, as well as a storage area.
The revamped chippy will have two entrances – one for takeaway (walk-in orders) and the other for click and collect. Customers will be able to order via click and collect here.

Lauren Lacy-Brown, who has been the manager for six years, told The Lincolnite: “With government guidelines and social distancing, and it not being a very big restaurant, it wouldn’t really be feasible to keep it open.
“With click and collect doing so well and receiving really good feedback, we decided to push that and change our focus.
“I am really excited for the changes and it will be a lot easier for customers with the click and collect. On the website you pick a day and a time slot and then turn up at that time and your food will be wrapped and ready to go.”
The menu will remain the same, but to celebrate being in business for 25 years Fish King will be running a promotion of 25% off online orders for the whole of September.
