Pizza Express will close 73 UK restaurants after a decline in earnings, including the Grantham one, but Lincoln’s outlet will remain open.

Pizza Express has 454 eateries in the UK and looks to sell the business after financial troubles during COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 1,100 jobs will be lost, but the sale process will protect over 9,000 jobs, according to the company.

Lincoln’s branch is one of the restaurants that will stay safe amid the closures, but the Grantham one in the George Centre on the High Street will close.

The managing director of Pizza Express in the UK, Zoe Bowley, said the stores chosen for closure are near to another branch that has reopened or will reopen soon.

“Unfortunately, the impact of the global pandemic has meant that we have had to make some incredibly tough decisions to safeguard Pizza Express for the long term.”
