The land was empty after arson attack at youth centre

A new children’s play area has opened in Lincoln on the former St Giles Youth Centre site that was damaged by an arson attack in 2016.

The area in Swift Gardens was home to the St Giles Youth Centre until it suffered major damage due to arson in September 2016.

Since the fire, the land was vacant and City of Lincoln Council has now transformed the site into a children’s play area.

It is the 29th play park in Lincoln and was chosen by residents in the area after conversations with the council.

It will include a zip line, swings, slides and other equipment for all ages.

Cllr Bob Bushell, portfolio holder for remarkable place at the council, said: “This park is a very welcome addition to the city after the loss of the much-loves youth centre.

“The fire in the area was devastating, however this play area will definitely see something positive rise from the ashes of the former centre.

“We as a council are committed to the estate and we are excited to see children and families in the area once again enjoy what this site can offer.”
