‘Vile’ rapist jailed after attacking woman in Grimsby

He has been classed as a dangerous offender

A man described as a “vile rapist” has been jailed for over 14 years after viciously attacking and raping a woman in Grimsby.

The woman was walking home on Railway Street in Grimsby during the early hours of Sunday, March 10 last year. Henry Froggatt grabbed her from behind and took her phone before pushing her onto the floor, assaulting her repeatedly and carrying out his attack.

Froggatt, 25, of Grimsby Road in Cleethorpes pleaded guilty to rape and assault causing actual bodily harm when he appeared at Grimsby Crown Court on July 7.

On Monday, August 3 he was sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison, with an extra four years added on as he has been classed as a dangerous offender.

Detective Sergeant Jayne Horsfall, from Humberside Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit, said: “Froggatt committed an abhorrent and despicable act, putting the victim through a horrific attack and untold torment, causing her to fear for her life for his own perverse sexual gratification.

“His actions are those of a vile rapist, he gave absolutely no thought or consideration to the detrimental effect he would have on his victim, and I am reassured that he is now off our streets and unable to commit further offences.

“I would like to praise the victim for her bravery throughout this investigation. She has shown real strength and courage and I hope that today’s (August 3) sentencing allows her to feel that some sense of justice has been achieved.

“This investigation has been a priority for us since the initial report came in and a dedicated team have been committed in exploring all lines of enquiry, working with colleagues from the National Crime Agency and the Regional Scientific Support Unit to do so, to find and hold the man responsible to account.

“I would always encourage anyone who is a victim of any type of sexual offence to please come forward and report it to us. We will do all we can to bring any offender to justice and behind bars where they belong.”
