Popular Cleethorpes bar shut down

Arthur’s House closes suddenly as locks changed and police called

A popular Cleethorpes cocktail bar has suddenly shut down.

Arthur’s House has been shut down after the landlord took back control of it.

The popular Cleethorpes bar on Sea View Street had forfeiture notices placed on it early on Monday morning. The police were called around 11.30am after the former tenants allegedly tried to gain access to the building.

The landlord has now confirmed that Arthur’s House will not be reopening, but a new bar will launching within weeks. The shutters are currently down over the cocktail bar.

A spokesperson for the landlord Arthur Burton Ltd said: “Wilkin Chapman changed the locks and placed the forfeiture notice around 6.30am this morning. A few hours later, we heard that a window had been smashed and the door was drilled out, and called the police.

“This is the end of Arthur’s House – it won’t be reopening. We will have a very exciting new bar opening in the space by the end of the month, however.”

The forfeiture notice which was placed on the building says that the tenants’ “right to occupy the premises has been brought to an end and the premises have been secured. Further take note that no person may lawfully enter onto these premises unless they have been authorised by the landlords/agents to do so.

“Any attempt by any person to enter these premises without the landlord/agent’s previous authority could amount to a criminal offence and may result in prosecution.”

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “We were called to a disturbance on Sea View Street at 11.35 today. It was found the incident was a civil matter.”

Arthur’s House launched in 2018 in the premises of the former tailors Arthur Burton’s. It hasn’t made any comment on its social media.

Legislation which stopped landlords from evicting tenants during the Covid pandemic ended last month.
