Gosberton road set to reopen after sinkhole troubles

The void has been filled

Council highways officers are hoping to reopen a Gosberton road on Friday after repairs to a sinkhole are completed.

Salem Street was closed since January 5 after the hole opened dragging the rear wheels of a lorry into it.

The cause was later revealed to be a redundant old well below the road.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire County Council confirmed that specialist crews have now filled in the void at the junction with the A152.

Minor works such as road markings will be carried out Friday morning and, all being well, the temporary lights on the A152 will be removed shortly after they are completed.

The spokesperson said it was “great news”.

“Our specialist teams have been working extremely hard to get this work completed so that the residents and businesses in the area can return to normal,” they said.

“This level of emergency work and skilled repair has been far from easy, but we are delighted to be able to reinstate the road in this way in such a short period of time.

“Our crews also want to pass on their thanks to the residents in the area affected. Their patience and understanding about the amount of work being undertaken has been very much appreciated by the engineers working on site.”

They warned, however, that the planned schedule may push into Saturday because of unforeseen circumstance, but it is very much the hope of the on-site crew that Friday can be achieved.
