Grand plans have been put forward to totally transform a petrol station on the A180.
The proposals would see Luxmore West, near Immingham, demolished and replaced, not only by a new petrol station, but also a coffee drive-thru, retail store and bakery. Their plans also include six new EV charging points.
The facility would be particularly tailored to HGVs, a common sight along the A180 given the nearby ports of Immingham and Grimsby. Features would include truck-washing facilities and an overnight HGV parking area.
The service station currently has four full-time staff and four part time. It is expected that, if the plans are approved, it will employ 20 staff, including ten full time.
There will be an outdoor seating area too, and while the application currently filed covers just the westbound service station, there are plans to redevelop also its eastbound twin.
The eastbound station would have more HGV parking spaces than the westbound service, along with six EV charging points. However, it would have just a retail kiosk linked to the filling station with a cash machine.

“Central government has recognised a need to attract and retain new HGV drivers, thus making this proposal a key addition to national infrastructure and providing economic growth potential,” said C+A Design in a planning document. Tree planting around the site is also planned, as is the creation of a small reptile habitat.
The application has been brought by Ascona Retail Ltd. This Pembrokeshire-based company owns 64 service station sites across the UK.
Planning documents filed with North East Lincolnshire Council do not indicate who will run new facilities such as the coffee drive-thru.
This is not the only recent proposal made concerning HGV facilities in northern Lincolnshire near to Immingham. KBC Logistics Ltd applied to North Lincolnshire Council last month to convert agricultural land into a lorry park at North Killingholme.
Permission was originally granted in 2018 but nothing happened in the three-year time period for construction. This was due to the pandemic and “delays with the legal process regarding the purchase of the site”.
