Voice of Lincoln: Should energy drinks be regulated like cigarettes and alcohol?

The caffeine debate continues to cause a stir

The buzz around energy drinks like Prime is reaching a fever pitch among the youth and even children, sparking debates and concerns. Should these caffeinated concoctions be regulated just like tobacco and alcohol?

Back in 2019, the government floated the idea of prohibiting the sale of energy drinks to those under 16. The British Dietetic Association (BDA) applauded this move, pointing to the proven adverse impacts of high-caffeine drinks on children’s focus and sleep. But no legislation was brought in since.
