Lincolnshire councils are £1billion in debt — but why?

As council taxes across the county look set to jump again this year, data reveals that Greater Lincolnshire’s councils owe a combined £1.1 billion in debts to lenders.

We are at a pivotal moment in the realm of council finances. In the last 12 months we have seen two of the largest councils in the country, Birmingham and Nottingham, declare effective bankruptcy, and just this week it was reported that Middlesbrough will ask the government for a £15 million loan.
