Midwives go the distance for charity

Striding forward: Midwives in the city walked for 15 days for charities close to their heart.

A group of midwives from Lincoln who embarked on a long-distance challenge to raise money for their favourite charities have handed over their cheques.

The midwives (pictured) walked 192 miles along coastlines from the Lake District across to Robin Hood’s Bay, taking them 15 days to complete.

The team consisted of seven midwives from Lincoln County Hospital and Louth, and a Lincoln paediatric nurse.

They managed to amass £1,300 in donations — £350 for Aegis Trust, £350 to Louth and District Hospice, £400 to Macmillan Cancer Support and £300 to St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice.

Midwife from Lincoln County Hospital Shamea Lee said: “As well as being an exhilarating and challenging project in not so friendly weather, we managed to raise over £1,300 for our respective charities through the kind donations from our friends, families and colleagues.”

The staff were Moira Doherty, Karen Needham, Jane Haywood, Shamea Lee and Jill Thomas, retired midwife Bridget Duckering and paediatric nurse Laura Benson.
