A new temporary park and ride service will be available this year to shuttle Lincoln Christmas shoppers into the city centre during ongoing roadworks.
The service, which has been arranged by Lincoln BIG in conjunction with Stagecoach Lincolnshire and the Lincolnshire Showground, will be available on the two weekends before Christmas.
The park and ride will run from the main A15 Showground Entrance on December 9, 10 and 11 and December 16,17 and 18.
Over 1,000 parking spaces are available at the showground.
Buses will be every 20 minutes or less between the following times:
Friday and Saturday – 9am -6pm
Sunday – 10am – 5pm (first bus from the Showground/last bus from Lincoln Bus Station)
The fare will be £2.50 return per adult and children will be able to ride for free.
There are no deductions for concessionary bus pass holders, and fares will be payable on board the bus.
Visitors will be able to hop on and off at any time, with stops at:
Cathedral Quarter (on Northgate by the Lincoln Hotel)
Cornhill Quarter and High Street (on Broadgate)
High St and St Marks (Lincoln Temporary Bus Station)
New car park
Drivers have been met with additional congestion and fewer parking options since the commencement of a number of roadworks in the city centre.
The competition and full opening of the new Lincoln East West Link Road, expected next week, and the opening of a temporary 250-space NCP car park on the former coal yard off Kesteven Street are also hoped to ease congestion in the city.

A spokesperson for the City of Lincoln Council said: “In the city this weekend there will be 3,892 spaces available at 29 car parks.
“On top of this, NCP is expecting to open a new 250 space car park on Kesteven Street in the next few weeks and Lincoln BIG will be running a park and ride from Lincolnshire Showground on the two weekends before Christmas.
“We appreciate that traffic in the city appears busier than normal but we expect the full opening of the East/West Link Road to play a major part in alleviating the strain on the road network in the south of the city.
“People also need to plan their journey in advance and be aware of the location of the available car parks before setting out.”
