The Lincolnite readers left hundreds of comments in reaction to the cancellation of the Lincoln Christmas Market on Sunday, December 10, due to the expected snowy weather.

“Christmas Market cancelled because the weather is likely to be too Christmassy,” Ben Rush remarked ironically.

“Only Lincoln would cancel Christmas Market because of snow. Can they cancel Christmas as well?!” asked Martin Schoenbeck.

Meanwhile, many were disappointed as they had plans for family and friends to visit the market.

Mitchell Fahey said: “I was going to take the kids tomorrow, but they are going to be gutted! A friend even said to me earlier it will be even better if it’s snowing.”

“Well after 30+ years going on a Sunday as a tradition, my dad taking us as kids and me taking my kids, looks like this is the year it gets broken. Wonder if London has shut Winter Wonderland?” commented Diane Goy.

Emma Strahan said it was “ridiculous”. “The only day we could go as a family and was hoping for snow. Not even a flake of snow yet! Everything is already set up and a lot of people will have already travelled.”

Also, Sammy Postlethwaite was not impressed: “My husband was away with the military for the last two years and it’s been our tradition since we met to go to the market as it’s where we had our first date. I’ve been working this weekend and was looking forward to finally being able to go tomorrow. And now it’s cancelled because it might snow a bit.”

Andrew Leitch believes “it’s very sad but the right decision given the forecast. We don’t want icy roads and accidents or traffic jams, slips and falls. So many people will travel and could be stranded. It’s better to take the decision early for the right reasons.”

Paula Colburn explained it was “a tough decision for the organisers, after working behind the scenes for this event for 16 years. I know this decision won’t have been made lightly and the health and safety of everyone has to come first.”

Then Luke Winch commented: “If we don’t get much snow tomorrow morning, there are going to be some rather large eggs on some very embarrassed and overly cautious faces.”
