A Lincoln bobsleigh team?

A trial will be held in Lincoln this weekend

The Great Britain Bobsleigh Youth Team is carrying out trials to find new athletes in Lincoln this weekend.

The team is looking for new athletes aged 14 to 16 (born between January 1 2002 and December 31 2005) in preparation for the 2020 Lausanne Youth Olympic Games.

A trial will take place at Lincoln Rugby Club, which is based on Lodge Lane in Nettleham, on Saturday, July 7 from 10am to 1pm.

It is an open invitation to all players/athletes, with a £10 entrance fee and the criteria and requirements pictured below.

No bobsleigh will be used on the day, it is fitness based tests, but people who make it through to the next stage could get the chance to go in one.

Any successful athletes from the Lincoln trial will then be invited to a second trial, which is set to take place at Bath University on July 21.

This could then potentially lead to the Team Selection stages.

Lincoln Rugby Club’s Under-14s coach Mark Kendall told The Lincolnite: “On behalf of Lincoln Rugby football Club (as a member, coach & parent), it is both an honour and privilege to be hosting a Bobsleigh Youth Teams Trial here in the city of Lincoln.

“This opportunity has only been made possible by Michelle Coy-Martin’s (Bobsleigh Youth Team Manager) willingness and foresight to bring this amazing prospect to the young athletes of Lincolnshire.

“A massive thankyou once again to Michelle Coy-Martin and let’s hope we can find you a future Olympian.”

Meanwhile, Lincoln Rugby Club is holding car boot sales every Sunday until August 19 from 8.30am until 12pm, with sellers advised to arrive at 8am. For more information contact the club on 01522 753967.
