Manager leaves care home after shocking abuse claims

The care home manager at the centre of an investigation into the alleged abuse of a vulnerable resident in Lincoln has left her job.

As previously reported, the man, understood to have dementia, was filmed being tormented, allegedly by a female worker at Cathedral Care Centre, located on Nettleham Road, back in May 2018.

New operator St Philips Care took over the running of the home in October 2018.

The company told The Lincolnite she was suspended ‘as soon as they became aware of the situation’.

It is not clear whether the woman, who has been named as Tina Bardsley, has since quit or been dismissed, but she left her position after a disciplinary process.

Chief executive of the new operator St Philips Care Dermott Kelly told The Lincolnite: “We commenced the disciplinary process and as of January 22 Tina Bardsley no longer works for us.

“From our perspective we are bringing the matter to a close and we will be bringing in a new manager.

“We took over the business from the former provider and this happened under the previous owner. It is not a reflection of our care.”

When Tina was suspended at the beginning of January, St Philips Care said it was then presented with evidence from a third party of a video which allowed them to commence disciplinary proceedings further.

This led to the end of her employment. When asked to clarify whether she resigned or if she was sacked, the company refused to comment.

It is also understood that her husband Frank, who worked as an operative for the home, has also left his position.

Shocking abuse on video

In a video posted on Lincolnshire Live, a woman continually quizzed the man about supposed sexual encounters. She asked him to sing a song, claiming “Jeremy Corbyn says you’ve got to”.

She also told him in the video that he had gay tendencies, threatening to take his walking stick in a distressing exchange.

A second video shows a woman heard saying that Jeremy Corbyn told her the man had “impregnated women” and that “you’ve got to be castrated”.

Police are investigating, along with Care Quality Commission, Lincolnshire County Council and the nursing home.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said there is no change in the investigation after one person was previously interviewed under caution.
