— Update on June 7: A problem with the booking system at the Lincoln Drill Hall box office has meant that tickets cannot be assigned or printed. The 600 tickets will now be available from Tuesday, June 12.
Gavin Street, Marketing Manager at Lincoln Drill Hall, said: “We’re experiencing a fortunately rare technical problem with our box office system and working hard to get things up and running again as soon possible.
“We know how frustrating this is for those hoping to secure Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration tickets and sincerely apologise for this temporary break in service and any inconvenience caused.”
Six hundred extra free tickets are now available for the Lincoln Olympic torch relay evening celebration on June 27 at Yarborough Sports Ground.
The City of Lincoln Council, which is organising the Lincoln leg of the Olympic torch relay, has made the extra tickets available through the Lincoln Drill Hall box office, after 10,000 tickets were allocated in just four days.
The council later appealed for anyone with spare tickets to return them for those who did not get a chance to book theirs.
Anyone who would like to apply for the free tickets can contact the Drill Hall on 01522 873894, go online, or call in to the venue on Free School Lane.
Holly Parker, Events Officer at the City Council, said: “Due to the popularity of the Evening Celebration, we have made 600 more free tickets available.
“We’ve already made sure the people on the waiting list have tickets, so the full 600 is available.
“For anyone who doesn’t get tickets, or who would prefer to line the route, there is plenty going on that day.
“The Torch Relay will start at South Park Avenue at around 5.30pm, so we hope people will line the streets from 4.30pm to enjoy the spectacle of the relay and see the Olympic Torch as it passes.”
“There’s also the Festival of Light around the Brayford Pool, with live entertainment and a fireworks finale.”
Local production company, In Production Music will start and end the Yarborough Sports Centre show with a large-scale dance and gymnastic show called One World, which involves 100 local performers.
Coca-Cola, which is one of the presenting partners, is bringing English rapper and grime artist Loick Essien to Lincoln.
Towards the end of the two-hour show, the last torchbearer of the day in Lincoln will light a celebration cauldron on stage, so the Olympic Flame can be seen by the entire audience.
