Fancy a pint? 20 Lincolnshire pubs added to CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2018

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has released its annual beer guide with over 100 pubs from Lincolnshire featuring in the book, 20 of which have been added to the list for this year.

Around 4,500 pubs are named in the Good Beer Guide each year based on a beer-scoring system which includes rating the quality of beer, food and facilities at each establishment.

Here are the 20 pubs in Lincolnshire that have been added to this year’s Good Beer Guide.

1. King’s Head, Stamford

Based in Stamford town centre, the King’s Head opened in the early 19th century and boasts a wood-burning stove and a wooden beamed ceiling. Adnams Southwold Bitter is the regular ale and four locally sourced beers are also on offer.

2. The Wheatsheaf, Barton-upon-Humber

Situated on the main road through Barton, The Wheatsheaf dates back to 1791 and serves Everards Tiger and Theakston Best Bitter as the two permanent beers with two changing beers also available.

3. The Horn Inn, Messingham

Refurbished in 2015, The Horn Inn is based in the friendly village of Messingham and serves food Wednesday to Sunday. Timothy Taylor’s Golden Best and Landlord are the pub’s two permanent beers with three regionally sourced changing beers.

4. King William IV, Scawby Brook

Found in a comfortable village near Brigg, King William IV offers food seven days a week. Seven real ales rotate across the three hand pumps in the pub.

5. The Signal Box Inn, Cleethorpes

The former train signal box claims to be ‘The Smallest Pub on the Planet’ and also boasts an impressive beer garden. In 2016 the pub served over 250 different national ales as part of the four changing pumps.

6. Yarborough Hotel, Grimsby

The Wetherspoons pub was recently renovated back into a hotel. Greene King Abbot, Kelham Island Easy Rider and Ruddles Best Bitter are the main beers, with 12 changing beers also available.

7. Goodbarns Yard, Boston

On the cobbled medieval Wormgate in Boston, Goodbarns Yard has been around for 700 years. Morland Old Speckled Hen and Timothy Taylor Landlord are the main beers with a nationally sourced changing beer available.

8. The Black Bull, Donington

Just off the A52,  The Black Bull has five hand pumps with two regular beers and three changing guest beer. Food is served throughout the week. Batemans XB and Sharp’s Doom Bar are the two main ales.

9. The Red Lion, Raithby

Built around 1690, The Red Lion has many small rooms that surround the bar and it is situated in a cycling and walking hot spot near the Wolds. It serves Batemans XB and Black Sheep Ale.

10. The Seathorne Arms, Skegness

Offering an extensive food menu, The Seathorne Arms is very popular with tourists due to its proximity to Butlins. The pub offers a rotating two-beer selection.

11. The Drayman’s Arms, Spalding

An early 19th century coaching inn, The Drayman’s Arms sells food on a Wednesday evening and Sunday lunchtime. St Austell Tribute is the main beer and one changing beer is available.

12. The Woolpack, Louth

This pub, situated near the theatre, offers three forms of Batemans’ ales; XB, Golf and XXXB with one changing beer. Dog friendly and popular with diners.

13. Ritz, Lincoln

Another JD Wetherspoon pub making the list, Ritz is found on Lincoln High Street and a very popular destination for football fans. The Ritz offers Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best Bitter and Sharp’s Doom Bar plus eight changeable beers.

14. The Crooked Billet, Owston Ferry

Found in a remote part of Lincolnshire, The Crooked Billet offers three cask ales- Marston’s Pedigree, Milestone Black Pearl, Sharp’s Doom Bar- plus one regional changeable ale.

15. BeerHeadZ, Grantham

The micro-pub was opened in 2016 and sold over 400 cask ales in the first year from across the world and also won the CAMRA Town Pub of the Year 2017. BeerHeadZ offers five changeable beers.

16. Green Man, Ropsley

Crowned local CAMRA Pub of the Year 2017, Green Man is a 17th century village pub with a fancy menu and beer garden. Marston’s Wainwright is the main beer with three nationally sourced changeable beers.

Offering a popular Sunday roast and a number of drinks, Sun and Anchor offers John Smith’s Bitter and Sharp’s Doom Bar plus one changing beer.

A private hotel and restaurant situated in Grantham, White Swan Inn sells Black Sheep Best Bitter, Sharp’s Doom Bar and three changing beers.

19. The Stirrup Inn, Willoughton

This pub is built from Lincolnshire limestone and traditional pub games are played throughout the week. Stirrup Inn sells Black Sheep Best Bitter and one changeable beer.

20. Chequers, Grantham

After being named in the guide in 2008, Chequers is back! A contemporary bar off the High Street in Grantham, it serves three local beers which change throughout the year.
