Three in hospital after serious stolen bike crash

An 18-year-old man and two teenage boys were taken to hospital after a serious crash involving a stolen motorbike in Grimsby on Thursday morning.

The crash between a stolen black Honda CBR 125 motorbike and a Red Vauxhall Corsa happened on Little Coates Road at the junction of Broadway at around 1.30am on Thursday, July 18.

The 18-year-old, who was riding the bike, suffered injuries which are thought to be life changing. He sustained a fracture to his neck, arm and leg as well as internal injuries.

The boys, aged 17 and 16, were also seriously injured and taken to hospital with tissue damage and a suspected broken rib.

All three were on the bike at the time and weren’t wearing helmets. The motorbike was stolen from a property in Grimsby earlier in the night.

The three in hospital are currently under investigation for an alleged burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving.

A 22-year-old man, who was driving the car, left the scene of the crash. He was arrested on suspicion of three counts of GBH, three counts of dangerous driving and one count of failing to stop.

Humberside Police has launched an investigation and believes the incident was as a result of an altercation which happened shortly before the crash.

Detective Inspector Kerry Bull, Senior Investigating Officer from Grimsby CID, said: “My team are investigating what happened before the collision and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen it, saw either vehicle beforehand or have any information in connection with this.

“The three males who were on the bike were all taken to hospital. Our primary focus at this point is to ensure that they are recovering well.

“I want to reiterate the very obvious risks of riding motorbikes in this manner. Three people on one motorbike not wearing helmets is not only illegal but extremely dangerous.”

Humberside Police has officers across the force area working hard to crack down on motorbike related crime as part of Operation Yellowfin.
