Plans have been revealed to turn part of a former Boston golf course into a 300-pitch caravan site with activity centre, spa and shopping facilities.
Boston West, which runs the facilities including a hotel on the site at Hubberts Bridge, closed the 18-hole course in July 2019.
Bosses at the time said they had not been able to make the sport, which had been hosted at the site for 20 years, profitable.
In a statement, they said: “It has been a constant battle to return the golf to a position of profit. Despite huge investment and extensive marketing campaigns, the golf sector has continued to beat us.”
Instead they said they would focus on the success of its hotel, restaurant and private functions and indicated at plans to open the ground to “benefit a far wider audience”.
The site would be located on part of Boston West’s 18-hole course.
In November, a move in ownership saw Paul Wilkinson and Alistair Arundell take-over and announce plans to create a Boston West Luxury Resort.
Currently, the club offers a nine-hole course – with the ability to play 18 holes in total.
Under the new plans, the caravan site will include a car park and sales area while the new “hub” building, which will be sited to the south of the existing clubhouse, will include a swimming pool, climbing wall and food and beverage areas.
A nine-hole course as well as a driving range would remain.
In the plans submitted to Boston Borough Council the company said they expect the development to generate £4.4 million a year through tourism.
“The proposed development would help to secure the economic vitality of the Boston West Golf Course and ensure that no jobs would be lost given the general economic trend indicating decline in the economic performance of golf courses over the UK,” they said.
