Two coronavirus cases at Grimsby school

The school closed one of its two sites

A school in Grimsby has confirmed two cases of coronavirus and has closed one of its sites.

Phoenix Park Academy is part of the Wellspring Trust and is a split site school. Key Stage 2 and 3 are based on Harold Street at the Phoenix House site, with Key Stage 4 students at the Park House site adjacent to Park Avenue.

Phoenix Park’s Park House site has been operating as a single bubble and all staff and pupils based there have been informed and told to self-isolate until Friday, October 2. The site will reopen on Monday, October 5.

Phoenix House remains fully open.

In a statement on Wednesday the school said: “We have robust plans to ensure our pupils can continue their education in these challenging times, and all pupils will be able to access online teaching during the closure.

“We have explained the situation to all parents and staff and reassured them that this situation is under control and being carefully monitored.”

This means there are now six schools in North East Lincolnshire with confirmed cases of coronavirus since term resumed on September 3.

A teacher at Cleethorpes Academy and a pupil at Stallingborough C of E Primary School tested positive for COVID-19.

A child in Year 6 at Lisle Marsden Church of England Primary Academy also tested positive.

The other two schools have not yet been publicly named.

In North Lincolnshire, a member of staff at Baysgarth School in Barton-upon-Humber has tested positive for coronavirus.

After a deep clean the school welcomed students back on site on Thursday, but due to the number of staff self-isolating, a normal timetable cannot be implemented and a rota will be used over the next two weeks – see the full announcement here.

Enderby Road Infant School in Scunthorpe also confirmed this week that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school.

The small number of children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case have been contacted and will stay home for 14 days. The school remains open for all other children.
