A university student has started his own clothes label in Lincoln, thanks to friends taking a liking to his designs.

Lloyd Shand (21) is the owner of Territorial Clothing, which so far features detailed, animal-themed designs (pictured).

He is currently in his second year at the University of Lincoln studying Graphic Design and Illustration, said he’s always enjoyed drawing.

“When I was in middle school we had to read for 10 minutes in between classes, but I didn’t like reading because I wasn’t very good at it so I asked if I could draw.”

Alongside his course, Lloyd also works at Wildcard in The Mall, which specialises in producing alternative clothing and merchandise.

“I got started there after I finished my job at Game. I’d been doing some designs over the summer, and some of my friends wanted have some designs on t-shirts.

“So I went into Wildcard and asked if they could put them onto t-shirts and the manager said ‘I can, but I can also give you a job.'”

“Through that I started my own label, and I help with other people who have designs they wanted putting on t-shirts, or people who are looking for some.”

Lloyd mentions that he is inspired by French street artist Rosh (formerly Roshi).

“I get a lot of my inspiration from Rosh. He does huge drawings on a walls using spray paints.

“It’s hugely detailed and colourful, using strong black lines.”

Lloyd’s apparel available to buy and upcoming designs can be found on Facebook.

Lincoln has a new artist who has brought a lifetime of experiences with him.

Retired engineer David Crawford, originally from Scotland, has set up a studio in The Terrace creative workspaces and is selling his art online.

“I was always good at sketching whilst I was in school, but I always remember when I was 21 and I was called into national service, my then girlfriend bought some equipment and I’ve been sketching ever since,” he recalled.

David decided later in his life he wanted to find something to do after retirement.

“When I was 35 in 1971, the Open University was just starting up so I decided to take a correspondence course to get a degree.

“At first I thought I would go for humanities, but then I remembered how I always enjoyed art; so I decided on art as I thought it would be relaxing and something to do in my spare time.”

David says his art entails a wide range of pictures from his travels around the world and has started to paint around Lincoln.

“When I became aware of art, I realised how beautiful the world is and infinite.

“My style is to re-create impressionistic styles and I myself get excited when something looks right. I never want to leave a negative impact.”

The artist found his studio location through another peer and added: “I hope my new gallery will be more stimulating than my garage, as I love meeting people so they can come and comment.”

David Crawford’s art studio is located in The Terrace on Grantham Street, in Lincoln
