Council appeals for spare Lincoln Olympic party tickets

Spare tickets? The City Council hopes people will return their spare tickets so others can attend the sold out event.

The City of Lincoln Council is asking people to return any spare Olympic party tickets to ease the waiting list.

As previously reported, 10,000 free tickets to the June 27 Olympic torch party at Yarborough Sports Ground were booked out in just four days.

Ticket sales were aided by a One World flashmob through the city centre to the Drill Hall.

However, the council are appealing for people to return to Lincoln Drill Hall tickets that might not get used, so those on the waiting list get the chance to join in.

Tickets can be dropped in at reception. The waiting list can be joined still by contacting the Drill Hall on 01522 873894 or the City Council Events Team on 01522 873540.

Holly Parker, Events Officer at the City of Lincoln Council, said: “We are very pleased at how popular the evening celebration has been.

“We would also ask that anyone with extra tickets return them to the Drill Hall.

“We are allowing eight tickets per household, but know that some people may have taken extra tickets that they don’t need now.

“It would be great if we could give those tickets to people who would otherwise miss out.”

She added: “Of course, for those people who don’t get tickets, or who would prefer to line the route, there is plenty going on that day.

“The Torch Relay will start at South Park Avenue at around 5.30pm, so we hope people will line the streets from 4.30pm to enjoy the spectacle of the relay and see the Olympic Torch as it passes.

“There’s also the Festival of Light around the Brayford Pool, with live entertainment and a fireworks finale.”
