New rheumatology consultant for Lincoln hospital

New consultant: A rheumatology consultant is hoping to improve patient care after surgery and out of the hospital in Lincolnshire.

Lincoln County Hospital has hired a new rheumatology consultant who hopes to improve services for patients.

Dr Mohsin Abbas specialises in chronic pain management and musculoskeletal ultrasound scans, and he hopes to provide diagnostic and therapeutic secondary care service for rheumatology patients, particularly long term, across the county.

Dr Abbas said: “My ambition is to provide the best possible evidence-based care to the patients and build up close working relationships with the local GPs, educate them and develop a seamless service.”

At present he runs clinics for outpatients new, follow up, joint and soft tissue injections in Lincoln and Boston.

Dr Abbas graduated from King Edward Medical College Lahore, Pakistan, moving to the UK in 2001 to do his senior house officer rotation at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby.

He completed his specialist registrar training in rheumatology and general medicine in Wessex deanery, Northern deanery and North Western deanery, finally acquiring CCT in rheumatology and general medicine in June 2011.

He then worked as a locum consultant rheumatologist and acute physician for the Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, then joined United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust in July.
