Classic posters: The Ritz cinema restoration in Lincoln is opening its doors to the wider public for the first time to raise money for the project with an original poster sale.

The Ritz cinema restoration in Lincoln is opening its doors to the wider public for the first time to raise money for the project, with an original poster sale.

Lincoln-based designers Leo Cripps and James Smart have designed 50 original posters and cards from popular films, which will be on sale in the foyer of the building.

The design pieces explore a wide selection of films and movies, spanning from the beginning of cinema to the present day.

Each original piece has been designed by the artists, using their own typographical and illustrative experience to develop innovative work taking inspiration from popular film culture and the history of The Ritz.

Leo Cripps said: “I am very excited to be involved in The Ritz Exhibition project. As a film fanatic and local designer, it’s a great opportunity to exhibit new work and raise awareness of a fantastic cause.”

James Smart added: “I’m really excited to be putting on my first exhibition, and the fact it will be raising money to reopen The Ritz building is fantastic.”

The exhibition opens on January 18 at 7pm and will continue through to January 25.

All proceeds from the sale of the merchandise will go towards the restoration project by non-profit organisation Off The Bench, which is now looking to raise £30,000 to continue their work.
