Lincoln swimming pool closed for a second time due to a leak

Pool closed: A Lincoln swimming pool has bee shut for the second time in two weeks due to a leaking roof.

Update August 24, 5.45pm: The swimming pool at Yarborough Leisure Centre will be closed for the rest of today and tomorrow.

Workers constructing a new swimming pool roof at Yarborough Leisure Centre in Lincoln have been hindered by weather for the second time this month.

The pool has been closed to the public after heavy rain on Sunday, August 23 caused a leak at the centre.

Other facilities at Yarborough, which is run by Active Nation on behalf of City of Lincoln Council, remain open, including the main gym, group exercise studio and cycling studio.

The centre has recently undergone a £1.2 million revamp with work to the roof completing a host of improvements.

The pool and exercise studios were closed temporarily however after heavy rain caused leaks on the first floor on August 14.

The pool was closed once again on the morning of Monday, August 24.

Karen Bevan, Leisure Services Team Leader for the council, said: “Yarborough Leisure Centre is an important facility in the city and significant investment has been made in it in recent times.

“Work has started to install a new roof but unfortunately the heavy rain we had last night has caused a leak to occur.

“Contractors are on site to assess the damage and to see when we will be able to re-open the pool. The safety of its users is of paramount importance and we can only open when we are sure it is safe to do so.

“While the pool is currently out of action, the rest of the centre, including the gym and fitness studios, is open to the public.”

Roger Michie, Yarborough Leisure Centre’s Deputy Contract Manager, said: “We’re currently working with the contractors installing the new roof to assess the damage and rectify the temporary issue.

“We’re hopeful that this is only a very short term closure, and will soon be able to announce our reopening schedule.

“In the meantime please join us for an exercise class or gym session if you had intended on visiting us for a swim.”
