Sports dinner: One of Britain’s most popular fighters of all time, Nigel Benn, will be sharing his stories of life in and out of the ring at a special event in Lincoln later this year.
One of Britain’s most popular fighters of all time, Nigel Benn, will be sharing his stories of life in and out of the ring at a special event in Lincoln later this year.
The self-titled ‘Dark Destroyer’ will visit the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel on Brayford Wharf for his “Unfinished Business” sporting dinner, organised by sports management consultancy seeitnowsports.com.
Benn will also be joined by Lincoln’s Bobby “Dazzler” Jenkinson as guest of honour, who recently won the Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight Championship and is defending his belt for the first time at the end of the month.
As a professional, Benn won 42 of 48 contests, knocking out 35 opponents in the process, and becoming a world champion at middleweight and super-middleweight.
However, he is remembered best for his fierce rivalry with old adversary Chris Eubank, watched by thousands at ringside and millions on television.
Sports fans will get to hear stories of Benn’s rise to the top, his two battles with Eubank, plus other memorable fights against Michael Watson, Iran Barkley and Steve Collins in what many describe as the golden era of British boxing.
Benn will also speak about his ultimately tragic bout with Gerald McClellan, which saw the American suffer life changing brain injuries following a brutal fight in London in 1995.
The Dark Destroyer, who now lives in Australia, is coming to back to the UK to support his son Connor who will make his professional debut on the same bill as Anthony Joshua’s challenge for the heavyweight world championship in April.
The event, sponsored by Home Nightclub and CSG UK Limited, will take place on Saturday, May 21.
All guests will enjoy a three course meal, entertainment and have the opportunity to meet Nigel and have a picture taken with him.
Afterwards there will be a VIP party at Home nightclub for all guests.
