RiverCare are looking for volunteers to take part in the next litter picking event at Sincil Drain on Saturday, July 2.

Both Lincoln RiverCare groups will be coming together for this joint event at Sincil Bank near Sausethorpe Street at 10am.

Lincoln Witham RiverCare will also be holding their clean up on the same day outside the Tower Bar on the University of Lincoln campus, near the river at 10.30am.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue crews will be joining the cleaning team to help get litter out of the inaccessible areas of the watercourse.

Volunteers at the River Witham clean up will be working their way down the river to meet the Sincil Drain group at 12.30pm at the Sincil Bank Football ground for refreshments.

The event is open to all, with all equipment provided and no experience is necessary.

Those interested in helping out are advised to wear outdoor clothing, sturdy shoes and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Kevin McCarthy, Witham RiverCare group leader said: “Clean ups like the one on July 2 will help to improve the area for people and for wildlife.”

Darren Stones, Watch Commander Support, said: “Getting involved in this year’s river clean event is a great chance for our crews to work with another local organisation and help keep Lincoln’s waterways as safe as possible.”
