New pedestrian crossing to improve safety in Boston village

On Friday July 22, work will begin on a new puffin crossing north of the junction of the A16 Main Road and the B1184 Frithville Road, Sibsey.

Some alterations will be made to existing kerbs and footpaths, and the approaches to the crossing will also be resurfaced to increase safety for pedestrians and drivers.

New lines will also be repainted to reflect the new crossing.

Graeme Butler, traffic and projects manager for Lincolnshire County Council said, “The new crossing will make it much safer for school children and residents to cross the A16, which many do to reach the local post office and primary school.

“It also comes with detectors that can tell when someone is crossing, and, if necessary, give them more time so they can get across safely at their own pace.

“The work should take four weeks, providing the weather is on our side. That means the crossing should be in place around the start of new school year.”

Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the works, and a pedestrian walkway will be provided. Some night-time road closures may be needed while the road is resurfaced.
