The car park to Hartsholme Country Park in Lincoln was closed on the morning of Wednesday, August 3 after four caravans pitched up illegally on site.

The City of Lincoln Council was informed that four vehicles had arrived overnight at the car park.

Officers are dealing with the situation at the time of writing and are in the process of asking the owners of the caravans to vacate.

While the car park was reopened again at around 10.10am, the travellers remain on site.

Lincolnshire Police have visited the group and the council understands they aim to vacate later today.

The travellers accessed the park despite the installation of barriers at the entrance in March, which were put in place to deter anti-social behaviour and increase security.

A city council spokesperson said there were not aware of any damage to the barriers.
