A Star Wars-themed fundraising event in Lincoln has been cancelled due to a lack of interest.

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice planned to host ‘Star Walks: Lincoln Awakens’, a Star Wars themed 10k sponsored walk on Saturday, September 17.

The hospice hoped the event would follow on from the success of the ‘One Night in a Onesie’ event in 2015.

Anyone who already registered to take part will receive written confirmation of the cancellation and details of their refund.

Alternatively, they will be offered the opportunity to transfer their place to another fundraising event.

A spokesperson for the hospice said: “It is with great sadness that we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel our forthcoming Star Walks on Saturday, September 17.

“This difficult decision has been taken because the event was under-subscribed resulting in it no longer being financially viable for the hospice.

“This wasn’t an easy decision as we hate to disappoint our supporters.

“May we take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused and to thank those who signed up for choosing to support St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice.

“We remain committed to supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families and providing them with the highest possible standard of care.”
