A Boston teenager who thrust a broken beer bottle into another youth leaving his victim scarred has been jailed.

Christopher Darrigan carried out the attack as his victim was leaving the Axe and Cleaver pub in Boston at 2.30am on August 15, 2014.

Lincoln Crown Court heard that Darrigan thrust a beer bottle with the end broken off into the side of the youth’s face causing a wound which needed stitches and leaving a scar.

Darrigan, 19, of Fenside Road, Boston, admitted a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm as a result of the incident.

He was sent to a young offenders’ institution for four and a half years.

His sentence is to run concurrently with a 16 month custodial sentence he is currently serving for other unconnected offences.

Judge Michael Heath, passing sentence, told Darrigan “You accept that what you intended to do was to cause him really serious physical injury.”

Kaja Reiff-Musgrove, in mitigation, said that Darrigan was only 17 when he committed the offence and is looking to change his behaviour.

She said: “He understands drink is behind his appalling offending. It is something he is keen to tackle and has been seeking help for in prison.”
