Grimsby Town FC manager Paul Hurst has left the club to join League One side Shrewsbury Town.

Hurst, who has been at the Mariners since 2011, led Grimsby to four successive playoff finishes in the Conference, eventually being promoted back to the Football League in May 2016 by beating Forest Green Rovers 3-1 in the final at Wembley.

Grimsby are currently in 8th place in League Two, one point and position outside the playoffs.

Assistant manager Chris Doig will also be joining Hurst at Shrewsbury Town.

Physio Dave Moore has agreed to act as caretaker manager while the search for a successor takes place.

A statement on the club’s website said: “We wish to place on record our thanks to Paul for all he has done for the club since his appointment in March 2011.

“He will forever be remembered as the manager who successfully saw the return of this club to the Football League.

“He leaves the club in a strong position and we wish him well for the future.

“Our attention now turns to the appointment of a successor, with work already commencing.”
