The City of Lincoln Council has agreed to open a 47-space temporary car park to help with shortages during city centre roadworks.

The public pay and display spaces will be located on the site formerly known as ‘The Coalyard’ off Canwick Road, north of Tentercroft Street.

The temporary coal yard car park will be in operation for three years as a replacement for lost spaces caused by roadworks linked with the new Transport Hub.

Officers will now work towards an opening date and prices for the car park, which have not yet ben set.

Council officers outlined a requirement for additional spaces due to ongoing works for the £30 million Lincoln Transport Hub which, as reported previously, required the closure of four central car parks and the demolition of the city bus station.

Original plans for a 600-space temporary facility off Beevor Street were shelved when the council reopened the search for alternative sites.

There are also a number of road closures affecting drivers in the area for around 18 months.
