Pupils at the school will sing carols to help get rail users in the festive spirit

Year 5 pupils from Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School in Sleaford are helping to get rail passengers in the festive spirit by singing carols at stations in Sleaford and Grantham.

On Wednesday, December 14, the pupils will combine their studies on sustainable travel with carol singing at Sleaford and Grantham stations to raise money for Save the Children.

The children will walk from their school to Sleaford station by Rauceby Banks footpath where they are scheduled to sing from 1.40pm to 2.10pm.

They will then travel to Grantham station to sing carols from 3pm to 3.20pm, before making their return journey to Sleaford station via the Poacherline rail service provided by East Midlands Trains to sing again from 5pm until 5.20pm.

Sustrans school officer Jon Moody, who has been working in the school with the children, said: “The children have been learning about all forms of sustainable travel and this is a great opportunity for the children to experience rail travel, whilst also raising money for a very worthwhile charity.

“The project has been jointly funded by the Poacherline Community Rail Project and Sustrans, a UK charity working to enable people to make smarter travel choices by travelling by foot, bike or using public transport for everyday journeys.”
