Councillors will discuss plans for 16 new homes to be built on a former school site in Billinghay, despite a number of objections from the parish council.

The proposals submitted by Lincolnshire County Council would see the homes built on the site of the former Lafford High School on Fen Road.

If plans go ahead, 13 two storey detached houses and three two storey terraced houses would be built.

The former Lafford Secondary School, where the new homes would be built, closed in 2010 and has since been demolished.

Since then, the site, which is approximately 1.01 hectares, has since remained vacant.

Billinghay Parish Council met on August 15, 2016 to discuss the plans, voting against the proposals, suggesting that there was a massive need to keep the Lafford site for community use and development of local facilities.

The site is close to a children’s centre, swimming pool and primary school.

Lincolnshire County Council has confirmed that they wish for the former playing field land to be used for recreational purposes.

It has been recommended that permission is given for the application.

A decision will be made by North Kesteven District Council’s planning committee on February 7.
