A motorist will be sentenced next month after she admitted causing the death of a woman by careless driving following a multiple vehicle crash on the A17.
Yim Chan, 51, pleaded guilty to causing the death of 71-year-old Margaret Wilson by careless driving when she appeared at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday, February 13.
The court heard Mrs Wilson died on June 21, 2016 – the day after a multiple vehicle crash on the A17 at Leadenham.
Chan, who was driving a Volvo XC90 towards Newark, Notts, was also given an interim driving ban after entering her guilty plea through an interpreter.
The court was told Chan, of Breck Farm Close, Taverham, Norwich, Norfolk, had no previous convictions and was a single mother.
Judge Simon Hirst agreed to adjourn sentence on Chan until March 10 for the preparation of a probation report and granted her unconditional bail.
The judge also asked the prosecution to provide an updated victim impact statement and medical report from Mrs Wilson’s daughter, Paula Wilson, who also suffered injuries in the collision and is waiting for surgery.
The court heard several people were injured in the multiple vehicle collision which happened just before 10.45am on Monday, June 20 last year.
A horse which was travelling in a livestock vehicle also had to be treated at the scene by a vet.
At the time of the collision Lincolnshire Police said six people were injured and five vehicles damaged.
Adjourning sentence, Judge Hirst told Chan: “You have pleaded guilty to causing the death of Margaret Wilson by careless driving.
“I am asked to adjourn the case for the preparation of a pre-sentence report and for the prosecution to provide some further information. I shall do that.
“The fact I am adjourning sentence on you should not be taken as any indication that you will not go to prison for this matter.”
The judge added: “Your driving ban begins today so if you drive you will be committing an offence of driving while disqualified.”
