A Wetherspoon pub in Louth has closed due to an infestation of vermin.

The Joseph Morton on Mercer Row shut on the afternoon of Sunday, March 12, with reports to Lincolnshire Reporter indicating that rats had been discovered on the premises.

A spokesperson for the national chain has confirmed issues with vermin and that the pub is expected to be closed until Wednesday, March 15.

However, there are “no guarantees that the situation will be resolved by then”.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We have had issues with vermin at The Joseph Morton and as a result have closed the pub.

“Pest control experts have been to the pub in order to deal with the situation.

“Our aim is to open the pub this Wednesday (March 15), though there are no guarantees that the situation will be resolved by then in order for the pub to reopen.

“We apologise to the pub’s customers.”
