A boy aged 13 and a 28-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm following the incident just after 5pm Sunday November 5.
They are both being held in police custody.
The incident happened on Newark Road, near to the junction with Brant Road.
Lincolnshire Police said a car had hit a pedestrian, though they believe that the pedestrian had been injured prior to the collision in an assault.
Reports at the time on social media indicated the victim fell into the path of a passing car after being attacked.
Simon Richard Parker posted on The Lincolnite’s Facebook page: “Spoke to a police officer and a person had been assaulted at the entrance to the nursing home and as they were getting to their feet, stumbled into the road where they sadly hit by a passing car.”
Police and other emergency services rushed to the scene and the road was closed in both directions for a number of hours.
The 43-year-old victim is in hospital at the time of writing. Police said they do not believe his injuries are life threatening.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or the assault is being asked to call Lincolnshire Police on the non-emergency 101 number quoting incident reference 304 of November 5.
