Be prepared: Flooding possible along River Witham in Boston

A flood warning is in place.

Flooding is possible later this evening along the River Witham and The Haven in Boston.

The Environment Agency is warning of unusually high tidal levels due to a predicted storm surge moving down the east coast.

A flood warning is in place for the Boston area, with forecasted high water at 6.42pm.

The high tides combined with strong winds may result in spray and wave splash causing some localised flooding behind the sea defences.

Forecasters have said high water level at Boston is predicted to reach 5.06 metres.

The tidal gates along Boston Haven will be closed ahead of high tide.

Coastal conditions should ease after the high tide has passed at 8.30pm.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Low lying coastal land and roads will be affected first.

“Be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads, as sea spray and waves could be dangerous.”
