Video: Police drone helps rescue freezing man in A16 ditch

Footage captured the moment a thermal-imaging police drone helped rescue a man who ended up in a freezing ditch off the A16 in Lincolnshire.

The man was discovered in a ditch 160 metres from his crashed car. He was unresponsive and hypothermic when police arrived on the A16 near Ludborough.

A passer-by had spotted his overturned car and called police. They arrived at the scene around 2.20am on Sunday, February 25.

The man, who is in his 30s, had wandered away from his vehicle on A16 into a ditch.

He was rushed to the hospital after he was rescued. He was later discharged from the hospital with minor injuries.

The police drone team was led by Sgt Mike Templeman who described the man to be unresponsive and hypothermic initially.

The pilot of the drone at that time was a volunteer SC Taylor.

Lincolnshire Police Drones said in a tweet: “We have two drones and specially trained officers who operate the kit in addition to their roles as front line response constables.

“We are working towards 24/7 coverage which we hope to achieve in April 2018.”

Since events unfolded on social media, the police drones team have received applause form all over the country.
