95-year-old woman ‘splashed by puddle’ dies in hospital

Police are still investigating the circumstances.

A 95-year-old woman from Sleaford has died after she was injured at the roadside earlier this week.

The woman, named locally as Hilda Moore, was rushed to hospital with severe head injuries, reportedly sustained by a fall after cars splashed her with a wall of water.

The incident happened as she was walking along the path near to the junction with Bonner Close and Mareham Lane in Sleaford at around 4.30pm on Friday, April 27.

Police confirmed on the morning of Wednesday, May 2 that she had died from her injuries.

Hilda’s son-in-law Peter Wheeldon posted on social media: “Thanks to everyone who posted messages of sympathy, support and good wishes. Sadly, Hilda passed away peacefully this evening (Tuesday) at Lincoln County Hospital where staff were absolutely superb and a credit to their professions.”

Lincolnshire Police said officers are still investigating the cause of her death and a number of lines of enquiry are being explored to try and establish the exact nature of the circumstances involved.

A spokesperson added: “Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area around 4pm and may have seen an elderly lady walking along Mareham Lane.

“Or if you have any information that may assist the enquiry and have not yet spoke to police please contact us.”
