Arrest after serious A18 crash

A casualty was taken to Scunthorpe Hospital

A person has been arrested in connection with a serious crash involving a van and a car on the A18 near Brigg.

One casualty was taken to Scunthorpe Hospital and another was treated for minor injuries at the scene after the crash outside Gallows Wood Service Station, Barnetby at 8.50am on Thursday, May 31.

As previously reported, police closed the road to traffic in both directions on the A18 near to the Wrawby roundabout

Police said the road is ‘likely to be closed for some time’.

Traffic websites including AA are also warning the crash is affecting traffic to Humberside Airport.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Emergency services are in attendance at a serious injury road traffic collision believed to have involved a van and a car close to the Barnetby Top roundabout.

“A call was made to police at 8:50am following the collision which happened on the A18 prior to the Wrawby roundabout.

“The A18 is blocked preventing access to the M180 at present as enquiries are underway.

“Officers have made one arrest in connection with the incident.”

A spokesperson for EMAS added: “We received a call at 08:54am to an incident outside Gallows Wood Service Station, Barnetby. The caller reported a road traffic collision involving a car and a van.

“We sent a LIVES responder, a paramedic responder, a doctor responder, a paramedic in a car and two double crewed ambulances. One patient was taken to Scunthorpe Hospital. One patient was also treated on scene for minor injuries.”
