New contract for Imps Wembley hero

Long and Walton also offered new deals

Elliott Whitehouse is among the Lincoln City players that will be offered new contracts at the club.

As previously reported, the midfielder was the hero as the Imps lifted the Checkatrade Trophy with a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury in their first trip to Wembley in 133 years.

Lincoln City recently submitted their retained list to the English Football League ahead of the 2018/19 season, with full-back Sean Long and goalkeeper Richard Walton also offered new contracts.

This follows last week’s news that Player of the Season Neal Eardley has extended his contract with the Imps, who lost in the League Two play-offs after an impressive seventh-placed finish, until the summer of 2020.

In April, Lincoln City’s managerial duo Danny and Nicky Cowley, along with midfielder Michael Bostwick, also signed new deals at Sincil Bank.

Midfielder Billy Knott will be released when his contract expires, whilst winger Cameron Stewart’s deal has been terminated by mutual consent.

Danny Rowe, Ryan Allsop, Scott Wharton and Jordan Williams will return to their parent clubs upon the expiry of their loan deals.

A statement from Lincoln City said: “We would like to express our sincere thanks to those players who will leave the club in the coming weeks and we wish them every success in the future.”

Meanwhile, the club have announced a pre-season friendly against newly promoted Championship side Blackburn Rovers at Sincil Bank.

The Imps will host the former Premier League champions on Sunday, July 22 (kick-off 3pm), with full details of ticket prices and sale dates to be released in due course.
