Police officer attacked after saving man’s life

He found him face down in a ditch

A police officer who came to the rescue of a man who was face down in a ditch near Lincoln was then attacked by the violent drunk.

A man has now been charged with being drunk and disorderly and assaulting the Special Seargent who potentially saved his life.

The police officer was on his way home from a 12-hour shift Sunday evening when he spotted a man lying face down in a water-filled ditch in Saxilby.

After helping him out, the drunken man quickly became aggressive and attacked the officer.

In Lincolnshire alone 271 police officers and staff were assaulted in 2017.

The Police and Crime Commissioner, Marc Jones, is now backing new laws for tougher punishments against those who attack them.
