Scunthorpe police bitten and assaulted

Two people were charged with assault

A man and a woman have been charged after four police officers were assaulted in separate incidents over the weekend in Scunthorpe.

One officer was reportedly bitten and received facial injuries in an attack on Grosvenor Street North in Scunthorpe on May 13.

Rianne Kiddle, 24, of no fixed abode, was charged with assault an appeared in court.

Three officers received various injuries while restraining a man on Teale Street the day before on May 12.

Lindsey John Bennett, 47, from Fox Street in Scunthorpe was charged with three counts of assault and he also appeared in court.

Assistant Chief Constable at Humberside Police Chris Noble said: “These are two wholly unacceptable examples of our officers being assaulted in the line of duty. This is something we do not and will not tolerate.

“We are providing support to those officers involved who are here, first and foremost, to protect the communities they serve, not to be attacked in this way as part of their day-to-day jobs.”
