Three months of Grimsby road closures

Drivers in Grimsby will face 12 weeks of road closures due to a three-phase project starting next week.

Work to reduce congestion at the busy junction of Peaks Lane and Hewitt’s Avenue in Grimsby will begin on Monday, June 11 and advanced warning signs will be in place.

An additional lane on Peaks Lane, New Waltham on the northern approach to the junction with Hewitt’s Avenue will be introduced.

Traffic lights will also undergo upgrades, while a shared footway will be introduced for cyclists and pedestrians to improve safety.

An access way will also be constructed within the highway whilst the traffic management scheme is in place, for a site which has planning permission for future development.

Once the works are complete queuing lengths on Peaks Lane will be reduced.

Three phases of work

The works will be completed in three phases and a temporary closure of Peaks Lane will be required during the construction period.

Existing traffic signals will be switched off on Hewitt’s Avenue to ease any possible congestion.

A night-time closure of Hewitt’s Avenue will be required so that carriageway resurfacing works can be done, but this will be towards the end of the project.

Advanced notification of these works will be given nearer the time and local diversions will be in place during the construction period.

The project is being delivered by North East Lincolnshire Council working in partnership with ENGIE.
