Woman scared for her life after arson attack

“I’m scared to death right now”

A Cleethorpes woman says she is “scared to death” after a man set fire to her car while it was parked outside her home.

Writing on Facebook, Leanne Sargent of Mill Hill Crescent, Cleethorpes, described how she heard someone attempting to enter her car at around 11:45pm and went outside to check what was happening.

When she opened her door she found her black Renault Clio already on fire and the alleged culprit calmly walking away.

A fire engine from Peaks Lane station in Grimsby was on the scene within five minutes and found what they described as “one car well alight.”

It took two hoses and one firefighter in breathing apparatus to put out the fire, at which point the car had suffered extensive heat damage.

A nearby silver Chevrolet had also been damaged by the blaze.

Humberside Fire and Rescue said they believe the cause of the fire to be deliberate ignition, and Humberside Police were informed.

Leanne Sargent was shaken by the incident and said: “I haven’t been to sleep yet, I’m scared to death right now that someone has it in for me. Why would anyone just set a car on fire?

“My mind is in overdrive right now. I’m scared to even leave my house.”

Humberside Police say enquiries into the report of arson are ongoing, and ask anyone with any information about the incident to call Humberside Police on 101 quoting log number 702 of 12 June 2018.
