Work can begin on 118 room student block

It will have car parking at the ground floor

Proposals detailing how a six-storey building incorporating student accommodation and car parking in Lincoln will look have been approved.

Plans had previously been given outline approval by the City of Lincoln Council in March with the possibility for accommodation or a hotel.

The proposals, submitted by Jackson and Jackson Developments, were then finalised and agreed with a final amended design on June 20.

A six-storey building incorporating 118 student rooms and a NCP car park to the ground floor will now be built on the site of the Grantham Street Car Park.

The car parking will be at lower ground floor level and accessed from Flaxengate and will include 24 spaces, and a further two disabled bays.

The student accommodation will include ten clusters of bedrooms with a shared living room and kitchen over five floors.

Of the 118 rooms, there will be four rooms for students with disabilities.

Outline planning permission for the site was granted conditionally on March 22, 2018.

Previous plans included a car park over two floors, with proposals for the remaining four floors being more flexible, with the applicants proposing that the space could be used as residential accommodation, student flats, office space, or as a hotel.

Simon Grace for Jackson and Jackson Developments told CityX: “We are pleased to provide another high quality student scheme to support the University of Lincoln’s continued success.

‘While we expected the development would lend itself well to a hotel scheme it proved difficult to entertain brands as the size was not quite large enough, most seem to require 90+ rooms.
“It will be good to see the open surface car park transformed into a more user friendly state of the art facility – providing much needed car parking close to the High Street.”
